Solar Manufacturing Plant Decommissioning
Project Overview
This project involved the complete end to end decommissioning of two full thin film module production facilities covering over 110,000sqm, including mechanical and electrical dismantling, wipe down, wet cleaning, dry ice decontamination, move out, packaging, and preparation for storage or disposal.
The works were executed in a highly regulated European environment requiring strict compliance with environmental and hazardous substance guidelines and involved multi shift operations to meet aggressive timeline commitments.
Key Facts: • Completed Manhours: ~150,000 Hours • Relocated Assets: 2 entire production lines (about 450 container loads) • Timeframe: 18 months from start to finish
Project Challenges
- Heavy contamination of key process equipment
- Strict environmental requirements
- Customer workforce that has been terminated
The Klose Advantage
- Decontamination with 3-shift rotation, 24 hours per day for 6 days per week using dry-ice blasting and close coordination with government bodies to test and certify the decontamination before arranging documented disposal.
- We managed large scale logistics from the plant in Europe to various destinations across North America and Asia.
- Successfully executed full factory decommissioning of two manufacturing facilities at a major European thin film module site under time pressure and strict environmental protection rules.
Outcome
Completed on-time with zero incidents
