Cocoa Factory Decommissioning
Project Overview
This project covered the full decommissioning of a large-scale cocoa and chocolate manufacturing plant in Malaysia, including selective harvesting of reusable equipment and the dismantling and packing thereof as well as cutting and removal of scrap items from the plant including machinery items as well as steel structures spanning multiple levels and sale of scrap metals.
The scope also included safe work execution in dust laden processing areas, handling of tall tanks, silos, micronizer units, conveyors, grinding lines, packing lines, and multiple auxiliary systems spread across several floors.
The harvested re-use assets required vacuum sealing, corrosion protection, skid based packing, and identification labelling, while scrap assets required cutting, controlled removal, and waste flow management.
Key Facts: • Completed Manhours: 43,121.5 Hours • Relocated Assets: 88 assets dismantled and packed / 4,000T scrap • Timeframe: 6 Months from start to finish
Project Challenges
- Space constraints and requirements by client to retain building structures
- Large amounts of cocoa powder residue that are easily flammable
- Tight timeline to finish relocation and demolition works at the same time
- Multi vendor cooperation
The Klose Advantage
- Our fleet of pick & carry cranes in Malaysia enabled heavy lifting works within tight spaces that otherwise would have been impossible
- Large in-house teams from Engineering, Project Management and Greenbook Holders to Mechanics, Fitters and Welders.
- Transparent reporting and online tracking of work progress enabled seamless project cooperation and execution.
Outcome
Enabled full retention of building structures thanks to our special equipment fleet.
